Tarkanian Shark Attack

On Feb. 23, 9:00 a.m., Las Vegas will play host to the Tarkanian Shark Attack 5k. “We want to provide a high-quality running event for people of every ability”, says Stephen Bolt, “for those just out for fun as well as for the serious runners going after their PRs.” Stephen Bolt should know about PRs having achieved world class status as the first American to run a mile in under 4-minutes, and a marathon in under 2:15:00

Stephen’s partner in the Bolt Series, CauseKeepers, is no less qualified to know what it takes to create a quality experience. Being the largest provider of services for non-profits in the US it only made sense that they would team up with a professional runner to create a running event series that could raise serious money for their charities. “The sport of running raised over $1.65 billion for worthy causes in 2010”, said CauseKeepers CEO Sam Hicks. “We are thrilled to be able to offer our non-profits this high quality, fun experience as a way to help them raise much needed money. I think you’ll see us grow from 20 events in 2012 to maybe 30 in 2013. We are excited!”

Pre-Registration Entry fee for the 5k is $35 and $40.00 on race day. There is also a 1 mile fun run, entry is only $20.

“I am really excited about what we are bringing to the running scene”, says Bolt. “Running has now really come of age. In the early days, only the real purists ran in road races. Today, tens of millions of Americans from age 5 to 95 enjoy all the fruits of the sport. And the Bolt Series is here to assure that they have a high quality experience”.

Do we expect a big turn out? Not sure how full those lots will get, is it acceptable to park by Thomas & Mack and just walk to the start from there?

  9. Tonya says:

Hello, on your registration page, it says the race starts at 7:00am. But from this thread I see it actually starts at 9:00am?

Also on the registration page, it says packet pick-up is the previous day (Friday) from 10am-7pm. Will there be packet pick-up Saturday morning prior to the start of the race?

My husband and I have already registered and are traveling in from New England for vacation. Thank you.

    • admin says:

      Tonya,

We are sorry for the confusion. The race 5k will start at 9:00am.

      • Glynnese says:

        Can you walk the 5k?

        • Admin says:

We are definitely ‘walker friendly”. It would be our pleasure to have you in the mix on Saturday, February 23. Bring a bright smile!

  10. RJ says:

More confusion with the time? Just saw a Facebook post that now says it starts at 10am. Can you please finalize once and for all and perhaps post something definitive on theboltseries home page?

    • admin says:

      9:00am. Thanks so much!

  11. Laura says:

May I bring my daughter in a stroller to do the 5K?

  12. Carrie says:

We are coming from out of town. Can you tell me about how many people have registered to date so we can see the size of this race? Thanks.

  13. Jon Dimaya says:

Will Jerry Tarkanian be at the race? I would love to meet him and introduce him to my kids!

  14. Yung says:

Just to confirm if we can do packet pickup the day of the race. Also the street address on registration does not seem to match location of start line. Is the packet pickup near start and could we please have street address of start line for transit? Thank you.

    • Admin says:

      Hi Yung,

The street address for the closest drop-off point is 4505 S Maryland Pkwy, Las Vegas, NV 89154. That’s the general address for UNLV. If you’re coming by taxi ask to be dropped at the Student Union which is on Maryland Pkwy. If you’re taking the bus use the route that drops you just in front of the Student Union.

The Start/Finish area is a very short walk from the Student Union. We will have signs and volunteers to get you to the Start area on time. Packet pick-up is in that general vicinity.

  15. Frances says:

What about race package pick up??

  16. Dan Mclaughlin says:

Where is packet pick-up and what time? Thank you

    • Admin says:

    Is this race stroller friendly?

  20. Jon Dimaya says:

Are there any photos posted of the race day? Our family had a wonderful time. My wife and I used to run on the UNLV campus when we attended school there. It was a great treat to bring my kids and Great Dane to such a wonderful race!!! You did a great job and put on a great race. We’ll be back for the next one!

  21. Laura says:

Are you going to list the winners in the various age ranges and their times … just curious how I did in comparison. :) Also, there were photographers at the finish – any chance of seeing the photo’s taken and information on whether they can be purchased, etc.
    Thank you.
